Photo quality and data usage¶
This page explains how large your photos get, when the app downloads files and how you keep storage space and data volume under control.
Photo quality¶
Photos you take with the camera or pick from the gallery are scaled down by the app when it saves them and compressed as JPEG. How much is set by the Photo quality setting. The app knows four levels; what counts is the longer edge of the image:
1280 pixels,
1920 pixels — the default, shown in the settings as “Standard (Full HD, 1920 px)”,
2560 pixels,
not scaled down.
The higher the level, the sharper the photo and the larger the file that is uploaded.
Files you attach with the paper clip (for example a PDF) are taken over by the app unchanged. The photo quality does not apply to them.

When files come to the device¶
The details of a task’s documents, that is name, description and count, come with every sync. That is why the counter on the task card is correct even without network.
The app downloads the files themselves only when you open the document list of a task. Until then, the entry shows a down arrow ⬇ and an empty placeholder instead of a thumbnail. If you tap a photo too early, the app reports “Photo is still downloading.”.
Preloading documents¶
If the Preload setting is on (see Working offline and synchronizing), the app also downloads in the background the files of documents whose tasks lie in the coming weeks. After that, they can be opened without network. In doing so, it keeps to limits:
at most 8 weeks ahead, even if preloading reaches further,
per run at most 50 files and 50 MB, early tasks and small files first; the next run fetches the rest,
with Wi-Fi only, only on a network that is not metered.
Preloading does not catch up on past weeks, except the first time for weeks that have never been loaded.
Cleaning up storage¶
The Clean up documents setting (Off, 1 week, 1 month or 2 months; the default is Off) deletes the files stored on the device for tasks whose end lies further back than the selected span. The app checks this at most every six hours after a sync.
The following applies:
Nothing is deleted on the server. Only the copy on the device is removed.
The entries stay in the document list and show the down arrow ⬇ again. If you open such a document, the app downloads it again.
Photos that still have to be uploaded and deletions that are still pending are left untouched.
